Atlas services, in one place

The Atlas Service Center is now welcoming walk-in visitors.

The Atlas Service Center (located on the first floor of E17, 40 Ames Street entrance) complements many of the resources available through Atlas online. MIT faculty, staff, students, and affiliates can receive guidance and complete activities by phone, via email, and in person at the Center. Please see below for details on specific services.

Hours:

  • In-person services are available Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm
  • Remote operations are available Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm. We welcome you to contact us at atlascenter@mit.edu or 617-253-3000.

For in-person services, please be sure to bring your MIT ID and your Duo device — such as your mobile phone — and any other required documentation as specified.

I-9 and E-Verify Employment Eligibility Verification

In accordance with U.S. immigration law, all faculty, staff, and student workers paid by MIT are required to provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States. See more on required documentation. Learn about the process and how to schedule an appointment.

Tax Treaty Guidance

MIT's Foreign National Payroll and Tax Coordinator is available by Zoom on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 am–4:30 pm, to help students, faculty, researchers, and staff address tax treaty questions, determine U.S. tax status, and complete required forms. Schedule an appointment for tax treaty guidance.

Notary Services

Complimentary notary services are offered by appointment only, 10 am–3 pm. Schedule a notary appointment.

Fingerprinting

Fingerprinting for criminal background checks is available to MIT community members. Schedule a fingerprinting appointment.

U.S. Passport Photos

There is a $10 fee (payable by TechCASH or credit card) for a 2x2 passport photo. Schedule a passport photo appointment.

IT Support

Team members can assist with software- and systems-related issues, help coordinate hardware repair with vendors, and provide loaner equipment for use until the repair is complete.

MIT ID Cards

Obtain your MIT ID card and replace lost or stolen cards. Learn more and get started with ID cards.

Background Checks

Required as part of the hiring process or to obtain a security clearance. Email backgroundcheck@mit.edu with general questions and minors@mit.edu for questions about background check policies for programs working with minors.

Commuting Benefits

MIT offers a variety of programs to help reduce commuting costs and support sustainable transportation alternatives. Parking & Transportation staff are available via email and phone as posted on Commuter Connections. Atlas Service Center generalists are also available to answer commuting questions in person.
